About

The Helpful Type

We’re often the only people typing food ingredients into an app and doing complex mathematical equations (fractions and percentages) before sitting down to a meal, grabbing a snack on the go, or eating almost anything. We frequently hold up a line at airport screenings with our medical equipment (hand checking the CGM sensors since they can’t go through an X-ray). And, we never set out for a walk or even crawl under the covers without a fast acting carb at the ready. Sound familiar?

Ellie, our precious and precocious, tween was diagnosed at age 8. We want to support and learn from other people with diabetes. We want friends and family to better understand life with T1D. We want to be helpful.

We benefit from people who generously share their own life experience with T1D. We are appreciative of those who step in and step up to keep Ellie safe and happy. Thank you.

The Helpful Type, like diabetes management, is a family endeavor. We’ll link to great sources and include hard-won insights. We’ll share struggles and successes. We’ll help each other.
